Ongoing damage to the sidewalk and buildings are being identified as the reasons for trees in downtown Fort Frances being removed.
The trees along the 200 block of Scott St. will be taken out when work crews begin fixing the sidewalk later this summer.
The town's Operations and Facilities Manager Travis Rob says they did look at how to keep the trees, but in the end it was just too costly to proceed.
Rob notes members of the Downtown Business Improvement Association were also made aware of the plans last year.
He says the town could look at other means of having trees back on Scott in the future.
He says that could take place during future road updates or in plants that won't cause damage to nearby infrastructure.
