Some additional training for hockey coaches across northwestern Ontario this year.
They're now required to complete gender identification training.
Hockey Northwestern Ontario's Trevor Hosanna says coaches in all levels of hockey, as well as trainers and managers must complete it.
It comes in two parts, one with a broad look at the gender issue with the other focusing on specific policies and rights of players who identify as being lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or two-spirit.
Hosanna says the training is the result of a Human Rights Case that occurred in southern Ontario four years ago.
The program is now available on-line through Hockey Northwestern Ontario's website.
Hosanna says about 50 coaches have already completed the training so far.
