The region's top cop is looking to bring a more proactive approach to policing.

Chief Superintendent Dave Lucas says OPP in Kenora work closely with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Task Force and wants to establish similar relationships in other communities across the region.

"No one agency can accomplish this alone," says Lucas, "so we're really going to have a focus with all of our community partners to address the root causes of crime, crisis and disorder."

Lucas, a former detachment commander for the Rainy River district, was appointed the Chief Superintendent of the OPP's Northwest Region earlier this month.
