Polar Plunge Set To Go

No concerns about ice for this year's Polar Plunge on New Year's Day in Fort Frances.

Members of the Voyageur Lions Club plan to check the thickness today, but are welcoming the recent cold snap.

Organizer Bill Michl is expecting a good number of participants with about 50 people expected.

While temperatures are expected to reach minus 20 C on the day of the jump, Michl says the jumpers have the protection of a heated shack before them make the quick plunge into Rainy Lake.

Michl says the weather will be more a concern for spectators who come to watch.

Registration Monday starts at 11 a.m. with the first jumpers taking the plunge at 1 p.m. that afternoon.
